Android apps limits

Android apps in your glasses work well for most apps, but some things are not possible. Here is each limit and what you can do instead.

Android

iOS does not let any app show other apps inside the glasses. On iPhone, use the browser and the web versions of your services.

The setup uses Wireless debugging, which Android has only since Android 11. On older phones the Android section of the Deck does not appear. The option Start automatically needs Android 13 or newer. On Android 11 and 12, turn on Wireless debugging yourself after each restart (MiruXR shows a notification for it).

Android only turns on Wireless debugging on Wi-Fi, and it turns it off when the phone restarts. Any Wi-Fi network works, even one without internet. Without Wi-Fi (for example, outside with mobile data only), Android apps can't start after a restart. Connect to a Wi-Fi network, turn on Wireless debugging, and MiruXR starts them.

Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Max and other services protect their videos. Android doesn't let protected video show inside a window: it would be black.

  • Most of these services open their web version in the MiruXR browser instead. See Use Android apps.
  • Netflix is different: its website does not play on Android, so MiruXR opens the Netflix app and warns you when you press play. To watch Netflix on Android, close MiruXR and use the Netflix app on its own: Android mirrors the phone screen to the glasses.

Apps receive one finger from the trackpad. Pinch to zoom and two-finger rotate don't reach the app. Use the app's own zoom buttons if it has them. To drag inside an app, hold your finger about half a second and then move.

Some apps draw their text cut or go off the side of the window. Open the window's menu, choose Zoom and try Like the phone. MiruXR remembers it for that app.

In Screen, all windows share one fixed screen. When it is full, a new app does not open and MiruXR says The screen is full: close a window, or switch to Space to open more. Close a window, or switch to Space. See Modes.

Locking the phone turns off the glasses

Section titled "Locking the phone turns off the glasses"

When you lock the phone, Android turns off the glasses too. Keep the phone unlocked while you use apps in the glasses.

Each app can have only one window. To see two things at once, use two different apps, or an app and a web window.
