Use your phone as the controller

While the glasses are connected, your phone is the remote. You point at things in the glasses and tap the phone to click. Opening apps, windows and modes all happens in the glasses, so you don't need to look at the phone.

iPhoneAndroid

At the top right of the controller, pick one of three pointers. Only the one in use shows its name.

Pointer How it works
Trackpad Slide one finger on the phone, like a laptop trackpad.
Laser Point the phone itself at what you want. Tap anywhere on the phone to click.
Gaze Point with your head and tap the phone to click. Needs glasses with head tracking. The controller reminds you: Move your head (glasses in Anchor mode).

The bottom of the trackpad always lists the gestures that work for what you are looking at.

Gesture on the phone What it does
Slide one finger Moves the cursor (Trackpad)
Tap Clicks, opens or selects
Touch and hold, then move Grabs and drags: a window by its bar, a widget, an icon on the deck
Two fingers up or down Scrolls a page or the Gallery
Two fingers left or right Next or previous photo
Pinch Zooms a photo
Three fingers up Enters the HUD
Three fingers down Leaves the HUD

With Laser or Gaze, one finger up or down scrolls.

Keyboard Opens the phone keyboard. See Type text iPhoneAndroid

On Android, Back, Center and Keyboard only appear when they have something to do: Back when there is somewhere to go back to, Center in the free Space and in 360 or immersive videos, and Keyboard with a web page or an Android app in front. On iPhone they are always there.

In a VR game the controller changes: it shows what your game controller does, or the phone becomes the game controller. See Play a VR game.

Settings: on the phone and in the glasses

Section titled "Settings: on the phone and in the glasses"

The phone's Settings keep only what belongs to the controller: Left-handed mode, help and support, and the app language. Almost everything else is set in the glasses, so you can try it while you look:

  1. Open the settings in the glasses: the settings icon on the deck or on the strip.
  2. On the Glasses tab: Volume, and Brightness, Dimming or Screen size when your glasses have them.
  3. On the General tab: Keyboard on the glasses, Laser sensitivity, Trackpad sensitivity and, in the HUD, Widget transparency.

The app language follows your phone. To change it, go to Settings > Language.

On Android: leaving and locking Android

Section titled "On Android: leaving and locking "
  • The back gesture works like Back: it goes back one step in the glasses and doesn't close MiruXR. To leave, use the phone's home gesture or button.
  • Locking the phone can also turn off the glasses (it does on a Pixel 8). To save battery and keep watching, use Turn off phone screen instead.

You can also use a Bluetooth mouse or a game controller. See Mouse and gamepads.
