iPhone or Android

Most of MiruXR is the same on both phones: the modes, the browser, the Gallery, media servers, the HUD and the phone as a controller. A few things depend on what each phone system lets an app do. Android is more open, so some features exist only there.

Why some features are Android only

Section titled "Why some features are Android only"
  • Phone apps as windows and VR games: iOS does not let any app show other apps inside it or act as a VR system. See Android apps and VR games.
  • Notifications and what's playing: iOS does not let apps read other apps' notifications or media.
  • Head tracking on Air and XBX: these glasses send their sensor data over USB, and iOS does not let apps read it. On Android, MiruXR reads it.

On Android, Netflix only allows its own app. It refuses to play in any browser, including MiruXR's, and its app can't play inside a MiruXR window either. What works on Android: close MiruXR and use the Netflix app, with the phone screen mirrored to the glasses. See Streaming services.

The two versions are released separately

The iPhone and Android versions come out at different times, so a new feature can reach one phone before the other. See What's new.
