Tips for VR games

Small things that help, learned while testing VR games in XREAL glasses.

Android

XREAL glasses show a smaller part of the world than a VR headset, so menus made for a Meta Quest can look very big.

  1. In the glasses, open the VR tab (the sliders button on the strip, then VR).
  2. Raise See more with the + button. You see more of the game, your hands too. The game follows you a little when you turn.
  3. Reopen the game. The new value applies when the game opens.

To go back to the value that matches your glasses, choose Automatic.

With XREAL One Series glasses, games switch to 3D by themselves. If a game stays in 2D, switch the glasses to 3D from their own menu. In 3D, things have real depth and size.

MiruXR keeps the phone awake during a game. If you lock it, Android turns the glasses off.

VR games are heavy for a phone. When it gets hot, the game can slow down. If that happens, take a break and let the phone cool down.

If a game asks for a permission when it starts (for example, ALVR asks for the microphone), MiruXR shows the question in your glasses when you opened the game from the Deck. Answer it with the cursor, and the game continues.

  • Beat Saber: your body doesn't move in the game (unless you use 6DoF with the XREAL Eye or your phone), so you can't dodge walls. The No Obstacles modifier helps a lot.
  • Star Wars: Squadrons (through ALVR): centering from MiruXR can leave the screen black, because the game keeps its own cockpit position. Use the game's own recenter option instead.
  • DolphinXR on a Pixel 8 or other phones with a Mali graphics chip: turn off Launch games in VR in DolphinXR. The game then plays on a big flat screen in VR. See Set up VR games.
  • GameNative games: see GameNative games.

To see How to play and the other guides again, open MiruXR's Settings on the phone and tap Show the guides again.
