VR games on your glasses

MiruXR can make your glasses work as a VR headset for VR games on your Android phone. The game surrounds you, you look around by turning your head, and your controller (or your phone) becomes your hands.

Android

Many VR games for Android use a standard called OpenXR. These games ask a small free app, the OpenXR Runtime Broker, which headset to use. You choose MiruXR there once. From then on, when you open a VR game, it shows in your glasses and follows your head. When you close the game, MiruXR comes back.

You don't need to turn anything on in MiruXR each time. Just have your glasses connected and MiruXR open.

For this You need
Any VR game An Android phone, XREAL glasses with head tracking, the OpenXR Runtime Broker app and a VR game
Open games from the glasses and use the phone as a controller Android apps set up (Android 11 or newer)
Use a physical controller as your VR hands Android 15 or newer and Android apps set up
Aim by moving the controller A controller with motion sensors (Joy-Con, PlayStation, Switch Pro) and Android 12 or newer
Lean, crouch and take steps in games The XREAL Eye or your phone on your chest (Beta)

Glasses: with XREAL One Series glasses, games switch to 3D by themselves. Other glasses with head tracking on Android also work, but on some phones the game stays in 2D. See Compatible glasses.

The full list of steps, in order, is in Set up VR games.

These were tested by the developer on a Pixel 8:

  • DolphinXR: GameCube and Wii games in VR.
  • ALVR: VR games from a PC (SteamVR), streamed to your glasses over Wi-Fi. You need a PC that can run them.
  • Beat Saber and other VR games from Steam, through the GameNative app. See GameNative games.

Other OpenXR games for Android should work too, but every game is different. If one doesn't work, please tell us: Report a bug.

These are the honest limits today, with what you can do about each one:

  • Your head turns, but your body doesn't move in the game. The glasses follow the rotation of your head. Leaning or walking does not move you in the game. With the XREAL Eye or your phone on your chest (Beta) you can lean, crouch and take steps. In games where you must dodge, play modes without obstacles if the game has them.
  • Your hands follow the controller's rotation. MiruXR places your hands with a model of your arm. If you move your arm without turning the controller, the game does not see it.
  • No hand tracking. You play with a controller or with your phone.
  • The view is smaller than in a VR headset. Menus made for a Meta Quest can look very big. In the VR tab, raise See more to see more. See Tips.
  • VR is heavy for a phone. The phone can get warm, and when it is hot the game can slow down.
  1. Set up VR games, once.
  2. Play a VR game.
  3. Controllers: which ones work and how they become your hands.
