Controllers

In a VR game, your controller becomes your hands. You can use Joy-Con, Joy-Con 2, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch Pro controllers, or your phone.

Android
Controller Your hands in the game How you aim
Two Joy-Con (Switch) One Joy-Con in each hand Move each Joy-Con
One Joy-Con Only the hand of that side Move the Joy-Con
Joy-Con 2 (Switch 2) One in each hand Move each Joy-Con 2
PlayStation (DualShock 4, DualSense) or Switch Pro The controller is both hands, like holding a steering wheel Move the controller
Xbox Both hands stay in front of you Hold the View button and look where you want to aim
Your phone, held sideways The phone is both hands Move the phone

Aiming by moving the controller needs Android 12 or newer.

How to play in the glasses always shows the real buttons of your controller for the game you are playing. See Play a VR game.

The center button (PS, Xbox or Home) belongs to MiruXR, like the menu button of a VR headset: tap it for the strip, hold it to center. The other buttons go to the game.

  • Most games (like ALVR and the games made for VR headsets): your controller moves two VR controllers in the game. MiruXR does this by default, also in games that can read a normal controller. With PlayStation, Xbox, Switch Pro or Joy-Con controllers, it needs Android 15 or newer and the Android apps setup. Without them, How to play says "This controller doesn't work here yet: use your phone as the controller". The Joy-Con 2 need neither: they move the VR controllers in any game.
  • Games that need a normal controller: the game uses your controller like any Android controller. In games that can use both, the phone lets you choose Regular controller instead. See The phone during a game.

MiruXR decides which kind a game is from what the game itself says.

  • Most controllers: in the phone's Bluetooth settings. Hold the controller's pairing button until its lights flash, then choose it.
  • Joy-Con 2: from the glasses. See Joy-Con 2 below.

In the glasses, the settings panel has a Controllers tab. To open it, tap the settings button (sliders) on the strip at the top.

  • It lists the connected controllers, with their hand and battery.
  • In use marks the controller that moves your hands now. If you have two sets (for example, Joy-Con and Joy-Con 2), the one you press takes the hands. You can also choose Use on the other one.
  • Calibrate repeats the calibration whenever you want.
  • Connect another controller shows Find Joy-Con 2 and Open the phone's Bluetooth.

The Joy-Con 2 (from the Switch 2) don't connect in the phone's Bluetooth settings. Connect them from the glasses:

  1. In the Controllers tab, choose Connect another controller, then Find Joy-Con 2.
  2. The first time, MiruXR asks for permission to find nearby devices. Allow it on the phone.
  3. Press the small sync button on the rail of each Joy-Con 2.

MiruXR remembers them, and they reconnect by themselves next time. To remove one, choose Forget.

Each time a game opens with controllers that have motion sensors, MiruXR shows Before you play: controllers still on a table, then (Joy-Con 2 only) a circle with each controller, then point ahead and pull the trigger. The steps are in Play a VR game.

Tips:

  • On the table, leave the controllers completely still until the rings turn green.
  • For the Joy-Con 2 circle, move only your wrist and stay away from the phone and metal things. If MiruXR says something nearby is bending the compass, move away and try again.
  • When you point ahead, point at something fixed, like a corner or a picture, the way you will play.

MiruXR shows a notice with the button to press to reconnect it (for example, the PS button). When it is back, MiruXR says so.

Bluetooth sometimes loses a little data on the way, and then a hand can turn on its own. If that happens, center the view (hold the center button).

Outside games, a controller can also move the MiruXR cursor, even with the phone screen off. This needs Android 15 or newer and the Android apps setup. A Joy-Con 2 works without them.

Button What it does
Left stick Moves the cursor
Right stick Scrolls
D-pad Jumps from button to button
A Click (hold to grab a window)
B Back
PS, Xbox or Home Shows the strip (hold to center)
L1 and R1 Previous or next page (in the Deck or a web page)
L2 and R2 Switch window (in Theater)

When you use an Android app, the controller goes to that app. Press the center button (PS, Xbox or Home) to bring it back to the MiruXR cursor.

Known limits: a left Joy-Con alone can't click, and its Capture button does not bring the cursor back from an app.
