HUD and widgets

The HUD is the second way to use MiruXR, next to Windows. Instead of big windows, it shows small widgets at the edges of your view and keeps the middle clear. You can see the world around you while you walk, cook or work, and glance at the weather, a timer or your next turn.

iPhoneAndroid

To open the HUD, do one of these:

  • On the deck, choose HUD at the top.
  • On the phone, swipe up with three fingers.

To leave, tap the exit button at the right end of the strip, or swipe down with three fingers on the phone. You go back to your windows.

In the HUD, the strip is always at the top of your view. From left to right:

Part What it does Phone

Time and battery The time and your phone's battery iPhoneAndroid
Widgets button (four squares) Opens Add a widget iPhoneAndroid
Record button (circle) Records what you see. See Record the glasses view. On iPhone, start recording from the phone instead Android
Settings button (sliders) Opens the settings panel in the glasses iPhoneAndroid
Bell Your phone's notifications. See Notifications Android
Exit Leaves the HUD iPhoneAndroid

Each HUD mode is a set of widgets for a moment of your day. When you switch modes, the HUD clears and shows the widgets of the new mode. You can add more widgets after that.

  1. Tap the mode on the left of the strip.
  2. In Switch mode, choose a mode.
Mode What it shows
Ambient The weather
Street The weather, and it asks Where are we going? so you can start a route. See Navigation
Work Your next calendar event and a Pomodoro timer
Workout A workout with your heart rate. See Workout mode
Travel The weather

MiruXR remembers the last mode you used.

There are two ways to add a widget:

  • From the strip: tap the widgets button. Add a widget opens. Tap a widget to add it. Widgets you already have show a check mark.
  • From the deck: with HUD chosen at the top of the deck, the deck shows the widgets as switches. Tap one to add it.

To arrange your widgets:

  1. Point at a widget. A handle appears.
  2. Touch and hold the phone on the handle, then move to place the widget somewhere else.
  3. Point at the handle to see the widget's bar, with its name and the close button.
  4. Drag a corner to make the widget bigger or smaller.

If the widgets cover too much of the world, make them more see-through: open the settings panel from the strip, go to General and change Widget transparency.

Widget What it shows Phone
Weather The temperature and the sky where you are. Needs access to your location. On Android the temperature is in Celsius iPhoneAndroid
Steps Your steps today, counted by the phone iPhoneAndroid

Note A short note. Point at it and tap to type. See Type text iPhoneAndroid

Some widgets need a permission the first time:

  • Weather: location. If the widget shows no temperature (on iPhone it says No location access), allow location for MiruXR in the phone's settings.
  • Steps: the first time you add the widget, the phone asks to count your steps. Allow it.
Android

On Android, MiruXR can show your phone's notifications in the glasses, in any mode:

  • When a notification arrives, a card with the app, title and text appears at the top of your view for a few seconds, then goes away by itself.
  • The bell on the strip opens the list of recent notifications. A red dot on the bell means there are new ones.
  • Notifications are for reading only. To answer one, use the phone.

To turn them on, MiruXR needs notification access:

  1. When MiruXR asks for it (during the first setup, or when you add Now Playing), the phone opens Android's notification access settings. The glasses show Check your phone: turn on notification access for MiruXR.
  2. Turn on MiruXR in that list.
  3. Go back to MiruXR.

On iPhone, iOS does not let apps read the notifications of other apps.

Android

The Now Playing widget shows what is playing in any app on the phone (music, podcasts, videos), with the cover, the title and the artist. Point at its buttons to go to the previous track, play or pause, or go to the next track.

It uses the same notification access as the notifications. Without it, the widget says Tap to grant access: tap it to open the settings.

On iPhone, iOS does not let apps see or control what other apps are playing.

Workout follows a walk, a ride, a run or a strength session, made for when you move outdoors. Stay aware of your surroundings while you train.

  1. Choose the Workout mode. The first time, the phone shows Connect your Health. Tap Allow Health access.
  2. The glasses ask What are we training today?. Point at Walk, Bike, Run or Strength and tap.
  3. During the workout you see the time, distance, steps and pace, and your heart rate with its zone. Pause and stop with the buttons on the widget.
  4. Stopping saves the workout to the Health app. If you leave the mode during a workout, MiruXR asks Cancel workout: confirming discards it.
  • Heart rate needs an Apple Watch. Without one, the widget says Requires Apple Watch. Time, distance, steps and pace come from the iPhone.
  • Your health data stays on your iPhone. MiruXR does not upload it anywhere.
  • On Android, this mode has no workout or heart rate data.
